The spot welder is ideal for welding thin wires. Two different types of tips are provided
- Copper tips are employed for welding Pt wires (e.g. 12.5 micron OD)
- Tips with tantalum ends are employed for Ta wires (e.g. 25 micron OD)
(This is necessary if Ta wires are to be oxidized in situo to create the Ta2O5 electrically-insulating layer)
